Who is Kesha Peyrefitte?
Peyrefitte is by all means, a village gyal, having been raised and still residing in Camalote Village, Cayo District. As a child, she began sketching, reading, sewing and participating in local drama. Peyrefitte has always wanted to be a writer. Her father was the person who introduced her to oral stories rooted in African lore and magical realism. Peyrefitte wrote her first short story after graduating from the University of Belize as an English major. She sees writing as a personal obligation to continue building on Belize’s literary tradition. She enjoys exploring new niches, and taboo subjects that have not been tackled or that need revisiting with a contemporary focus. Currently, Peyrefitte is working on a sophomoric collection called “I’m Beginning to Question Things and Other Stories” to be published in early 2017. Peyrefitte will also continue writing at Miami University, Ohio in 2016 to complete her novels.
